10 Horror Films to Watch When Cinemas Open From May 17th

With the easing of lockdown rules from May 17th, cinemas will once again be opening. Here are 10 horror films to look forward to watching, whether that be in the full cinema experience or on one of the many streaming services available. A lot of films this past year have been held back from their original release dates due to the pandemic, meaning 2021 is going to be a good year for horror.


Spiral: From the Book of Saw

(Release date: May 17th)

The 9th instalment in the Saw franchise, Spiral: From the Book of Saw is host to a brilliant cast. With both Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Rock in its leading roles, Spiral will follow a police veteran, detective and partner as they delve into an investigation that's chillingly similar to a previous serial killer.



The Unholy

(Release date: May 17th)

A hearing-impaired girl is visited by the Virgin Mary and can suddenly hear, speak, and heal the sick. As people flock to witness her miracles, terrifying events unfold. Are they the work of the Virgin Mary or something much more sinister?


The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

(Release date: May 28th)

The third Conjuring film, following the works of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, this time being based on the trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson.


Fear Street 1994, Fear Street 1978 and Fear Street 1966

(Release date: June, July and August)

A three film adaptation of R.L Stines most popular book series. These three films are set to be released one month apart on Netflix over the summer. Very little is known about the premise of all three films. However, the first instalment is going to feature Maya Ray Thurman Hawke, daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke. Other actors include Jordana Spiro, Darrell Britt-Gibson, Kiana Madeira, Olivia Welch and more.


Don't Breathe 2

(Release date: August 13th)

The sequel to the intense 2016 thriller Don't Breathe. In a rather large turnaround from the first film, Don't Breathe 2 will have Stephen Lang, reprising his role as Norman Nordstrom, a blindman who kidnapped and impregnated a woman in his basement. This time, in what seems like an attempt to redeem himself, Nordstrom takes in and cares for an orphaned girl who is then kidnapped.


Candyman

(Release date: August 27th)

Written by Jordan Peele, Win Rosenfeld and director Nia DaCosta, Candyman (2021) is a direct sequel to the 1992 film of the same name, and the fourth instalment in the franchise.


Jeepers Creepers Reborn

(Release date: Autumn 2021)

The fourth film in the Jeepers Creepers franchise. Chase and his girlfriend Laine attend Louisiana’s first ever Horror Hound Festival. Chase then begins having premonitions that directly linked to the town’s gruesome past and the Creeper himself, with an unnerving feeling that something bad is about to happen.


Halloween Kills

(Release date: October 15th)

2021 so far is full of franchise horror films and Halloween Kills is no exception. The 12th instalment to the Halloween franchise and direct sequel to the 2018 film, being set on the same night. Laurie Strode and co set out to take Michael Myers down, once and for all.


Last Night in Soho

(Release date: October 29th)

A highly anticipated film by Edgar Wright, a young fashion designer finds herself able to go back to 60s London where she encounters her idol. But nothing is what it seems.


Texas Chainsaw Begins

(Release date: TBA)

Very little is known about the latest instalment of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Franchise, but if you're a fan of the films, then this latest creation is very exciting news. Set to be released some time in 2021, The Face of Madness Returns.
