Daniel Kaluuya, From Skins to the Academy Awards


Daniel Kaluuya won his first academy award on Monday for Best Supporting Actor for portraying Fred Hampton in Judas and the Black Messiah, becoming the first Black British actor to win an academy award. Born and raised in London, he got his first big break in the hit teenage sitcom Skins (2007-12) playing Posh Kenneth. Now in recent years he has become one of Hollywood’s leading Actors. Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith star in the critically acclaimed movie directed by Melina Matsoukas with a screenplay by Lena Waithe. It follows a young couple on a first date who are harassed by a racist police officer and then must go on the run after they accidentally shoot him.



Judas and the Black Messiah, 2021, Shaka King

Judas and the Black Messiah tells the true story of Fred Hampton (Kaluuya), leader of the National Black Panthers Party in late 60's Chicago as he is betrayed by an FBI informant. Kaluuya also won a BAFTA award and a Golden Globe award.
