EUPHORIA VS SKINS

"Euphoria" is a coming of age drama series in 2019 surrounding the lives of teenagers struggling through the effects of drug and alcohol abuse, domestic violence, and sex. This show surrounds the characters' lives and gives us an insight into each of their individual stories. This provides the viewer with a realistic view of how mental health is portrayed in the average teenage life. This show blew up, and people became obsessed with recreating the makeup looks, clothes and even the scenes from the show.

Rue, the main character in the show, is shown in a constant battle with her drug addiction and mental health problems. She falls in love with a character named Jules, which significantly impacts her drug abuse as she becomes dependent on Jules for her sobriety.

From my experience, this show was enjoyable to watch from the characters, the cinematography, the storylines and the costume design. I recently watched Season 2, which a lot of people dislike. Despite this, I liked the show because the characters are easy to relate to and

The cinematography is very abstract compared to Skins. It has loads of long takes and fast-paced close-ups from the left or right through continued shots, appealing to the eye. It is shown in the carnival scene, a long take of two minutes, flowing through multiple characters.

Even though this show influences drugs and violence, I feel it has characters the target audience can relate themselves to more than Skins.

Skins

"Skins" is a coming of age drama series in 2007, following the lives of teenagers in school, heavily influenced by drugs, alcohol, violence, suicide, sex and murder. This show was a significant impact in the 2000s taught many life lessons, from a teenager's perspective, on specific topics, like self-worth.

From my experience, watching this show made me feel highly depressed; however, I wasn't experiencing any common issues during that time of watching the show. I was upset most of the time because of how sorrowful the characters' lives were. It made it difficult for me to watch. But I like the characters' personalities; therefore, I watched the rest. My friend was watching at the time and felt the same way I felt. However, the show significantly influenced teenagers in 2007; the tabloid newspapers in those times were copying the parties from the front, with the impact of underage drinking and misbehaviour.

The cinematography in skins was more standard filming; close-ups, long shots, and medium close-ups. However, it did have a different approach shown by the end of six seasons, a musical with all the characters singing.

Despite this, this show was different from any shows out at that moment, e.g. Disney shows with high stars, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez, which was more child friendly for kids and teenagers. However, this show was loved by teenagers despite being resented by parents.
