Latino Talent Anticipated Films of 2021



In the Heights Before Hamilton, Lin Manuel Miranda wrote In the Heights containing rap and beautiful melodies that moved people to tears that led him to win four Tonys. The play was constantly finding a home for distribution until they found one in Warner Bros. Pictures and principal photography commenced on June 3rd 2019 and were set to release on June 20th 2020 however it was decided to delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film has a star studded cast such as Rita Moreno, Anthony Ramos, Stephanie Beatriz and some are new to Hollywood however they have been gracing the latino media for a while such as Leslie Grace and Melissa Barrera.

Cinderella Camila Cabello will be making her acting debut as Cinderella becoming the first Cuban-American to portray the title character in a musical retelling. She is joined by Billie Porter, Idina Menzel, Minnie Driver, and Pierce Brosnan with the release of the film to be on July 16 2021. Much of the plot of the film hasn't been shared but one thing that is promised from is that there will be a modern twist.


No Time to Die Ana De Armas has been taking Hollywood by storm with her roles in Blade Runner 2049, Knives Out and it’s not surprising that her newest role is playing Paloma, a new take on a Bond girl. The Cuban-American actress has been gracing the spaniard film industry becoming one of their biggest stars so it made sense for her to try her hand. After No time to Die she will be joining Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling on The Gray Man to be released on Netflix.

West Side Story 20th Century Fox began developing the remake of the film with Tony Kushner to write the screenplay then Steven Spielbaerg was attached to Direct the film. West Side Story (1961) won ten Academy Awards and is beloved by many however it does not mean the film didn do the latinos unjust by having the majority of the cast who were all caucasion play latinos and wear brownface. Today representation matters more than ever so many were curious to see the casting choices for the role of Maria who will be played by Colombian actress Rachel Zegler and Ariana Debose will play the role of Anita who is Afro Latina.
