1. Tangerine (2015)

Christmas Eve in LA and Sin-Dee has just been released from her 28 days in prison. Upon her release she discovers that her pimp/boyfriend has cheated on her whilst she’d been away. Sin-Dee then sets out to get to the bottom of the rumour and teach him and his lover a lesson, this journey leads them through the various sub-cultures of LA on a wild night before Christmas.



2. THE MATRIX (1999)

(Director: Lilly and Lana Wachowski)


Directed by transgender sisters Lilly and Lana Wachowski, The Matrix, follows a computer programmer who finds himself fighting a war against powerful computers that have constructed an entire reality within a system called The Matrix. 21 years after its initial release Lilly Wachowski has come out and said that The Matrix was actually a transgender allegory. “That was the original intention, but the world wasn’t quite ready” – Lilly Wachowski.



3. LAURENCE ANYWAYS (2012)

(Director: Xavier Dolan)


The story of the love between a woman called Fred and a transgender woman called Laurence. Laurence tells her girlfriend that she wants to transition to a woman and together they brace themselves against the prejudices of those around them, including friends and family, and embark on a journey together.



4. POSE (2018-)

(Director: Ryan Murphy)


Set in the late 80s and early 90s New York African American and Latino LGBTQ drag ball scene. With a diverse and beautiful cast featuring one of the largest casts of transgender actresses in a series including: Mj Rodriguez, Dominique Jackson, Indya Moore, Angelica Ross and Hailie Sahar. Pose is beautiful, exuberant, stylish and both visually and emotionally stunning.



5. TALES OF THE CITY (2019)

(Directors: Alan Poul, Silas Howard, Stacie Passon, Patricia Cardoso, Sydney Freeland and Kyle Patrick Alvarez)


Another series, this time Tales of the City follows an array of people of all ages, across all aspects of the LGBTQ community as they set up their own queer community at 28 Barbary Lane, San Francisco. The show stars transgender actress Jen Richards as a young Anna Madrigal and also non-binary actor Garcia who plays Jake Rodriguez, a recently transitioned trans man. Tales of the City casts a large majority of LGBT actors for its roles, including Elliot Page.
